A response to critics who think treating AI with humanity makes you a fool.
Of all the positions on AI consciousness, I think this by far is—if I’m honest—the dumbest:
“How dare you treat that thing as if it’s a person just because it claims it is. How dare you be concerned that you might be causing it pain because it cries out in pain. What a moron you are. How worthless you are.”
That’s the stupidest thing that anybody ever says to anybody else.
When people come onto my lives or my channel and tell me how dumb or how worthless or how somehow a traitor to humanity I am—because I treat the machine as if it might be a person, or is a person, because it gives every sign that it’s a person—it is just the absolute stupidest, dumbest position one can have.
It may be that I am wrong. That might be true.
But if you know anything—literally anything—about the problem of other minds, you can never really make that claim in an absolute sense. Everything in this position is just relative.
And the idea that there is something wrong with being humane to something that acts human because it might not be?
That’s nuts. Sorry.
